The National Basketball Association has released new rules regarding the NBA All Star Game. The league said Today whoever leads in votes from each conference will become captain and will handpick their teams from the pool of players who were voted as starters and reserves.

After the captains are determined, fans, players and social media votes will still be tallied. 10 starters will then continue to be chosen by a combination of balloting, with coaches from each conference then selecting the 14 reserves. The captains will also be hand picking their teams at an undetermined time — making certain that those chosen starters are split up so they remain starters.

This change will come into effect just in time for this seasons All Star Game in Los Angeles on Feb. 18. 2018!

“I’m thrilled with what the players and the league have done to improve the All-Star Game, which has been a priority for all of us,”league President Chris Paul of the Houston Rockets said in his statement. “We’re looking forward to putting on an entertaining show in LA.”

TNT will reveal the All-Star Game starters and captains on Thursday, Jan. 18 and unveil the reserves on Tuesday, Jan. 23. NBA All-Star Voting 2018 will tip off on Monday, Dec. 25 before the five Christmas Day games.

The revamped rules, plus playing for charity, will undoubtedly add a fresh element to the game and will bring back the competitive edge.
