HIP-POP REPORT WITH OZMAN: NBA Commissioner David Stern To Step Down In 2014



Longtime NBA Commissioner, David Stern, sent an email to key NBA executives that he's retiring. The Board of Governors has picked Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver to replace him. David Stern's final day in office will be February 1st, 2014.

"The Board has selected Adam Silver to succeed me as NBA Commissioner, and I am very pleased with their choice," Stern said in the statement.

"As you know, Adam is a world-class business executive who has influenced so many areas of our business during his 20-year tenure with the league, from television, to digital, to international, to merchandising, to sponsorships, to team business, to, of course, labor negotiations. I know that the organization will be in very good hands when Adam becomes Commissioner."

The 70-year-old Stern began working in the NBA in 1966 as an outside counsel and became commissioner in 1984. Stern oversaw a huge boom in the league which beget the globalization of the game of basketball. Stern's first NBA Draft included the likes of Hakeem Olajuwon, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley and John Stockton.
